Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a boat licence to hire or drive one of your houseboats?

No. All you need is a valid full-driver’s licence (car licence) issued in Australia and you must be over the minimum age (see next question). We’ll provide a full briefing and demonstration before you depart. (This is in line with many other houseboat operations in Australia.)

You must be at least 21 years of age (or whatever your policy is) to be the nominated skipper/hirer and hold a valid driver’s licence. We’ll also ask you to complete the induction and operate the vessel responsibly.

Not at all. One of the big advantages of houseboat holidays is that modern craft are designed for ease of operation. We’ll provide a full on-water familiarisation cruise and practical demonstration so you feel comfortable before heading off. (Other operators make the same point.)

Each boat’s capacity is limited by the number of berths and safety regulations. Contact us for more info.

Yes! A houseboat holiday is very family-friendly. We ask that children are always supervised on deck and wear life-jackets when required. Our boats have safety features like hand rails and fenced upper-deck areas.

Your boat includes fully equipped kitchen (oven, stovetop, fridge/freezer), showers and toilets, hot water, indoor/outdoor living spaces, sun deck, safety equipment (life-jackets, fire extinguisher). You’ll need to bring your own food, drinks, toiletries, fishing gear, swimwear etc. (This matches standard industry content.)

We recommend:

  • Valid driver’s licence and photo ID
  • Food & beverages (we provide fridge/freezer but you must stock it)
  • Personal toiletries, towels (unless included)
  • Swimwear, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
  • Fishing gear (if you plan to fish)
  • Board games or books for relaxed evenings on the water
  • The boat is supplied with sufficient fresh water for typical use (drinking, cooking, showering). You may wish to supplement with bottled water. Some operators give details like “400-600 litres fresh water” etc.
  • Fuel is included up to a certain limit (or you’ll be charged for usage above that). Please check with us for your selected boat.
  • Power supply: Standard 12 V / 240 V (inverter) systems are typical; inspect details for your craft. Some operators restrict heavy appliances.

No. For safety reasons, driving the houseboat after sunset or before sunrise is not permitted. This is standard practice across the industry.
